As an industrial engineer it is my duty and responsibility to analyze and evaluate methods of production and point out ways to improve them. Decide how the company should allocate its limited tangible resources (equipment and labor) within the framework of existing constraints (physical plant). My most difficult task is communicating my observations and suggestions to company executives. In this case I would inform my boss. Present him my observations and project recommendations for approval. Although this implies that the company will be forced to layoff 20 additional employees. My goal and priority is to reduce cost and by doing so not only do I reduce the companies operational costs but I will save 315 employees comparing it to if the plant would shut down. It sounds hard and cruel but that's what I was hired for. I was hired to design, develop, test and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including human work factor, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis and production coordination. The bottom line is that I was hired TO SOLVE PROBLEMS. By doing this I prove to the company that I am reliable.
As the plant industrial engineer I will communicate my ideas to my boss because the future of the company depends of that information. I will recommend make another analysis to be sure that the final decision will be the best taking in mind the benefit of the company and the benefit of the workers. Also had to take in mind the cost effect of implementing a new line with more machines because could be more expensive in long time. The intensive analysis of all the alternatives is important because a bad decision leave some peoples without job given bad impression to the others employments of the facility. Making all of this analysis will help the company to meeting its production targets in the future and make a solid company.
